Happy Halloween 2010!

2 chili dinners.  Family.  Friends.  Our old ward.

2 trunk or treat activities = too much candy.

We had fun.

We are staying in tonight, eating Beef Picante Soup, making homemade donuts (John's family tradition) and seeing if any poor soul tries to make it down our crazy driveway from some candy.  I kind of doubt it.

Our rogue pirate, knight in shining armor and "mudblood" aka muggle-born wizard/witch from Hairy Potter (she claims to be Ron Weasley's new girl friend) will protect us tonight from any harm while we stay warm inside!

Gross Out Menu - details

From our family Gross-out Feast menu post, I realized you probably couldn't read the "description" of the food we were serving. Jaley helped me with the descriptions and we were literally rolling on the floor laughing! Jaley did the artwork for this menu. (We did have a second gross-out feast that really grossed them out this year! The pictures are here)

So here is the text from our menu:

 Appetizers 

Monster Boogers – hand picked and preserved for your enjoyment. Served with crispy bat wings.

Monster Barf - who knows what’s in there … have you watched Shrek lately? Served with crispy bat wings.

Ursula’s Jumbo Lipstick – those poor unfortunate souls …. Served with ocean slime.

Monster Toes – served with their very own ….
toe jam!

 Main Dishes 

*Main dishes served with your choice of mealworm clusters or re-hydrated skeleton bones and a bilious salad

Maggot Burgers – Now how did that get in there? Maggots freshly gathered from the dumpster topped with a variety of …. Disgusting toppings (puss, coagulated blood, pond scum, leaf from Venus Fly trap, formaldehyde cuke and Tom A’s toes)

Pirate Fingers – Donated by Captain James Hook and his crew from the Jolly Roger. Served with coagulated blood, pond scum and chopped formaldehyde cukes. Fingers served on moldy scraps from the kitchen on the Jolly Roger.

Barf in a Bag – Generously donated by Elitch Garden Amusement Park. Local from Denver Colorado!

 Desserts  editor notes are in italics

Diaper Surprise – Gee, thanks E. (Our baby cousin attending the event)! (Served in a real diaper!)

Frozen Bovine Fluid – Served with your choice of toppings: Kidney Stones, Coagulated Blood, Puss, and “The Runs”, whipped phlegm. (The toppings were served in test tubes)

Witch Fingers – A secret stash found in OZ in a hidden compartment of the Lolli-pop Guild Boys’ fort. And you thought they liked lolli-pops … hmmm

 Drinks 

Vampire Blood – A fresh mixture of O, A, B, and AB blood collected from alarmed prey.

Dehydrated Patient 24 hour collection samples - Generously donated by our local lab.

On the back of the menu we had this:
Eat at your own risk.
Barf Bags available upon request.

Halloween Costumes

A bit late, I know.

We went with a Renaissance theme ... getting ready for our large family picture in 2011 at the family reunion when we attend the Renaissance festival in costume!

This Halloween was right at the end of a snow storm that resulted in 3 snow days and no Halloween/Fall Festival at the Elementary Schools. Kerst was sad. Oct 31 had beautiful weather! Even with about a foot of snow on the ground, we wandered out - without coats ... that's how beautiful it was - and went trick-or-treating. Kerst and Jaley were done trick-or-treating after doing our block. Kendall wanted to go on. Kendall was out voted.

Kendall the pirate. He fits the part a little too well ... even when not in costume. Arrrr....

Jaley the washing wench ... even with a blackened out tooth!

Kerst and Kendall ... the pirate boys.

Yet another Gross Out Feast

We did a second Gross-out Feast this year for the kids and their friends.

It was Gross! The kids even admitted that I did a better job this year!

Appetizers: Ursula's Lipstick and BBQ Bat Wings
Main Dish: Flesh Eating Serpent - the kids were grossed out, but managed to choke it down.

Dessert: Bleeding Heart. Not so realistic, but the kids were so grossed out after I cut into it that they couldn't eat it at all. It was yummy!

Gross Out Feast 2009 - menu

We did a Gross Out Feast/Barf-fet with John's sisters and their families earlier this month. I will post pictures and details later. I thought I'd post the menu (drawn by Jaley). We had some repeats on the menu from last year since it was a new crowd. Tomorrow we are doing another Gross Out Feast for the kids ... with different foods. It's going to be fun! Stay tuned!

The front of the menu was "2nd Annual M. Gross Out Feast and Barf-fet". The back of the tri-fold menu had credits going to Jaley for the artwork and to contact idon'tcare.com for complaints. Eat at your own risk and Barf Bags Available Upon Request were also on the back.

Here is menu:

Translations:
Appetizers –
Monster Boogers: Guacamole and black/purple tortilla chips

Monster Barf: Salsa w/cream cheese and black/purple tortilla chips

Monster Toes: Mini sausages in Grape jelly and bbq sauce recipe

Ursula’s Jumbo Lipstick: Shrimp and cocktail sauce

Main Dishes – (sides: Salad, tater tots or French fries)
Maggot Burgers – mini hamburgers rolled in dehydrated onions. We might just put chopped onion on top. Catsup, mayo, lettuce, mustard and pickles

Pirate Fingers – Hot Dogs w/catsup, mustard and relish served on a bun.

Barf in a Bag – Pot Pie served in a brown bag - support the bottom of the inside of the bag with wax paper so the bag doesn't break!

Dessert –
Diaper Surprise – Mixture of Pudding, cake, brownies, candy bars, etc served in a diaper. Bottom portion of candy corn to represent “corn”.

Frozen Bovine Fluid – Ice Cream with nuts, caramel, strawberry and chocolate toppings. Whipped Topping.

Witch Fingers – Brownies

Drinks-
Vampire Blood – red punch (red soda) with thin red strawberry jello strips floating in it! Really cool!
Urine – Apple juice. Lemonade with Cream Soda … mixtures like this. I did Ginger ale. I served it in urine collection cups you see at the Dr and Hospitals. It was funny!

Spookified - again

For FHE we set up our Halloween decorations. Not much different from last year. Kendall took a little bit to warm up to the skeletons.

Now to prepare for our "Gross-out Feast" ... we are doing it a little more casual this year and doing it "Barf-fet" style. We have a pretty gross menu planned ... beware!

Gross-out Feast Menu - Appetizers

Appetizing? You be the judge....

Monster Puke (which really did look like puke to me) and Monster Snot was served with Bat Wings.

We also had Monster toes.

Our graveyard

Here is the graveyard in our front perennial flowerbed. I guess it is really a perennial graveyard....

Now we are working on the inside...a little.

Gross-out Feast

Inspired by a dear friend in IL (Jean K.), we have decided to do a "gross-out feast" with the kids. They have all invited a friend to be grossed out with them.

Now to finalize the menu....your suggestions are welcome!

Jean said she knew it was a success if her son Jonathan threw up. Not sure if we want to be that successful with the friends around, but we still informed them that barf bags will be provided!
